The kitchen is said to be the heart of the home, and that’s precisely what The Nott’s family wanted to create with their kitchen renovation project in Hamilton Ontario.
They came to us after reading reviews online, eager to find a company that could use modern design techniques as well as in house trades to work with them on a project which would increase their families communication while creating a truly open and refreshing living space, perfect for the modern family with diverse interests. They were particularly impressed with our custom kitchen cabinetry and keen to work with us to bring their ideas to life. We were equally excited about this project, and the chance to test our design skills to the max.
The Hamilton Kitchen Project Brief
After reading our fantastic reviews online and learning a little more about what we had to offer in terms of kitchen renovations, the client decided to visit our Stoney Creek showroom, which is where we really got started.
At the start of any project, we feel it’s important to have a long and honest chat about what the client wants, what we can offer and any expectations that either party has.
During this initial conversation, we talked about how we would need to remove a load-bearing wall which divided the family’s kitchen from their living and dining room. The family were keen for a more open space to improve communication and help them to spend more time together. They were looking to create a very modern two-tone kitchen with plenty of seating and a large island, perfect for cooking, eating together and just hanging out as a family.
The family felt that this kind of open concept living area could improve relationships and give them greater opportunities when it came to entertaining friends and family members. An open plan living space like this is perfect for creating a social space that is comfortable and inviting. It was going to be a big job, but the benefits of the changes involved in kitchen renovations like this one are clear. Now we were ready to start this Hamilton kitchen renovation!

After this visit, I made an appointment to visit the family at home. This would give me a chance to take some measurements ready to start planning, designing and budgeting. But, it was also an excellent opportunity to get a feel for the space, and my visit gave me a much clearer idea of how we wanted the project to turn out.
Using 3D Digital Designs
3D design rendering is the perfect way to bring a clients ideas to life and when it comes to significant kitchen renovation projects like this one we find that it’s often the best way to make sure we are all working on the same page and aiming for the same goals.
After taking measurements while visiting the family home, we were able to start 3D design work, rendering the main floor and kitchen area before inviting the client in. We sat down together in the design centre to make modifications, allowing the client to see what difference the changes would make in real-time. During these sessions, we fine tuned the design until the client could see the living space that they wanted, and we knew that it was something that we were able to achieve for them.
Then, it was time for a visit to the showroom to choose materials for countertops and backsplashes as well as colours and other finishing touches. We then incorporated the client’s choices into our 3D rendering, so that they knew exactly how their actual kitchen renovation project in Hamilton would all look together.
A Beautiful Space Comes to Life
We’d worked closely with the clients on a beautiful design that we were eager to get started on, and I’m pleased to say the project itself went as smoothly as the design stages. Detailed plans made the work a breeze, and we could quickly appreciate how great the Nott’s new living space would look upon completion.
Finishing Touches Make this Hamilton Kitchen Project Shine
For me, it’s often not the big changes in these kinds of kitchen renovations that stand out as highlights, but the finishing touches that really make a family’s kitchen their own. On this project, it was the contrasting white and navy two-tone shaker style kitchen cabinetry, and the gold handle finish on the kitchen island, which complemented the navy delightfully.
Other highlights include the stunning wide plank Engineered hardwood floor by Torlys, the backsplash from our trusted supplier Sarana Tile which was chosen by the client and complemented this kitchen marvellously, and of course, the Cambria Brittanica with a ridge-line edge has always been one of my favourites.
