Choosing A Kitchen Countertop

The best material for your kitchen counter is one that is within your price range, can achieve the look and presentation you want with the maintenance and upkeep you are willing to devote to it. 

Quartz Kitchen Countertops

Quartz kitchen countertops are the fastest growing choice for new kitchens in Halton Region. Over the past 5 years, Quartz kitchen countertops have become the most popular choice by the homes we have renovated in Burlington, Hamilton and Stoney Creek.

We believe this trend is happening Canada wide and it is because of the vast improvement of colours and patterns that Quartz is now available in. This luxurious product can look exactly like granite or marble yet requires considerably less maintenance and is much more resistant to staining than either of those two. Heat resistance has improved considerably but perhaps not to the point of granite yet.

Granite Kitchen Countertops

Granite kitchen countertops used to be the number one choice for a kitchen reno in Halton Region. It earned this ranking due to it luxurious finish and beautiful natural colouring and unlimited patterns. Available in many colours, it adds beauty and durability to any kitchen. Granite excels in heat resistance but stains fairly easily unless properly sealed. Even when properly sealed, liquids should be cleaned up quickly to avoid staining and annual sealing is recommended to preserve its natural beauty.

Marble Kitchen Countertops

Marble is one of the most beautiful (and potentially expensive) natural materials you can choose for a kitchen countertop. Marble Kitchen countertops possess stunning luster and unlimited colouring and patterns. No two kitchens will look alike when dressed with marble kitchen countertops. Marble can be damaged by heat and can stain so some care and yearly maintenance is required to remove fine scratches. Marble kitchen countertops should always be sealed to protect from staining.

Laminate Kitchen Countertops

Greatly improved in terms of looks and colour choices but still very inexpensive it is a great choice for very strict budgets. What it lacks in luxury and luster it makes up for in durability. It is very resistance to both heat and staining. One area of concern is that you must be careful not to cut directly on this surface as knife cuts will damage it easily.

I asked the owner of Zzone Homes, Marco, for his opinion on kitchen countertop materials. He expressed a true love for Quartz, Granite and Marble because they all have such beauty.  He acknowledged that each has some advantages over the other, but in the end he simply said “ I’m much more likely to accidentally spill a glass of wine on the counter than put a burning hot pan down on one, so that is how I personally would finally select one.”
